Kimi Antonelli’s extraordinary Italian Grand Prix victory has made him the undisputed star of Italy’s newspapers, with the country’s leading sports publications all devoting their front pages to the Mercedes driver’s historic Monza achievement. La Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport all celebrated Antonelli, and the reaction extended well beyond the specialist sporting press.
Ferrari has been pushed into the background, almost forgotten. Since Sunday, the attention of Italian motorsport – and much of the wider country – has been firmly fixed on Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who became a hero on home soil by triumphing at Monza exactly 60 years after Ludovico Scarfiotti.
Kimi Antonelli’s Monza win captures Italy
The scale of the achievement made the story even more remarkable. Kimi Antonelli completed an extraordinary recovery from 19th on the grid to win the Italian Grand Prix, while his latest success has also strengthened his push towards the Formula 1 World Championship.
A story of that magnitude was always likely to command attention on the front pages, and that is exactly what happened. The three major Italian sports newspapers all made Kimi Antonelli one of their leading stories, while several of the country’s largest general-interest newspapers also gave prominent space to the Mercedes driver’s achievement.
‘Kimi prodigy’, ‘Volare’ and ‘Sarà perché ti amo’ lead the headlines
La Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport all dedicated their front pages to Kimi Antonelli’s Monza triumph. Only the Turin-based Tuttosport dared to give football the most prominent position at the top of its front page.
La Gazzetta dello Sport led with the headline “Kimi prodigy”, while the other two sports newspapers turned to famous Italian songs for inspiration. Tuttosport chose “Volare”, while Corriere dello Sport went with “Sarà perché ti amo”.
The celebratory coverage reflected the exceptional nature of Antonelli’s performance. His charge from the penultimate row to victory not only delivered a home win but also produced a series of Formula 1 records at Monza, further enhancing the significance of the result for Italian motorsport.
Italy’s national newspapers also celebrate Kimi Antonelli
The reaction was not confined to the sporting press. Three of Italy’s most influential national newspapers – Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica and La Stampa – also gave significant space to Kimi Antonelli’s masterpiece.
None of the three used his victory as their main lead story, but all featured a large photograph in the centre of the front page showing Kimi Antonelli wrapped in the Italian tricolour. The imagery underlined how the Mercedes driver’s Monza success had become more than simply a Formula 1 result.
Kimi Antonelli is increasingly emerging as one of Italy’s leading sporting figures, with his home victory adding further momentum to a season in which he is already moving closer to the ultimate prize. His position in the 2026 Formula 1 drivers’ standings means every result now carries even greater significance as the championship battle develops.
For one day at least, Italy’s traditional Ferrari obsession has taken a back seat. Kimi Antonelli’s victory at Monza has crossed the boundaries of motorsport and turned the young Mercedes driver into a national sporting headline.
