F1 | After the damage, the mockery: Red Bull jokes about McLaren’s disqualification – VIDEO
The double disqualification of the McLaren cars in Las Vegas has put Max Verstappen firmly back into the title fight, and Red Bull wasted no time in “punishing” their rivals’ mistake with a humorous video. The Las Vegas Grand Prix has given McLaren plenty to think about after the FIA excluded both cars for excessive plank wear, a decision that reshaped the championship battle. Social media erupted immediately, making fun of the team’s error in such a critical phase of the season. Even the Red Bull sim racing division joined in with its own dose of online irony.
The race had initially shaped up well for Lando Norris in terms of the championship. Despite losing a position at the start, the British driver still managed to score important points over Oscar Piastri while keeping Max Verstappen at a safe distance.
For that reason, the post-race disqualification felt like an ice-cold shower, especially for Lando Norris. Both McLaren cars showed irregular wear on the plank—particularly in the rear section—and the FIA was uncompromising, excluding both MCL39s from the final classification.
It is certainly not an isolated incident in Formula 1. The most recent example came earlier this year at the Chinese Grand Prix, when both Ferrari cars were disqualified for a similar issue. But in McLaren’s case, the consequences are far more critical, as Verstappen has now reduced his deficit to Lando Norris to just 24 points.
The mistake by the reigning world champions was undoubtedly serious and naturally sparked waves of online humour. Among the various reactions, the one that stood out most was from Red Bull sim racing. With a playful video, they reminded everyone “how to lift a car properly” to avoid disqualification.
Below is the video shared on their social channels, accompanied by the short caption: “just a friendly little tip”.
McLaren will head to Qatar knowing the FIA will be measuring every millimetre twice, while Red Bull can enjoy the chaos – and the fact their social media team just produced the meme of the season.
Plank wear might be serious business on track, but off it? Red Bull just showed the paddock how to win the internet in one fifteen-second clip.
