Another exclusion
The upcoming Japanese Grand Prix will mark Yuki Tsunoda’s debut at the wheel of a Red Bull, a team that, after just two races, decided not to continue with Liam Lawson. A ruthless decision that adds to the many made in the past by the Milton Keynes-based outfit, but one that is now beginning to irritate even the driver who has won four consecutive world titles with Red Bull: Max Verstappen.
The Verstappen family’s reaction
On the day the Liam Lawson – Yuki Tsunoda swap was officially announced, the Dutchman liked a rather critical post on Instagram by his compatriot and former F1 driver Giedo van der Garde, who described Red Bull’s move as a form of “bullying.” This system of constant mid-season driver changes has not been well received by Jos Verstappen either, Max’s father.
Also on social media, the former Benetton teammate of Michael Schumacher expressed his support for Liam Lawson, encouraging him in response to Racing Bulls’ post welcoming the New Zealander back to the team. Lawson has also received backing from his home media. “I really hope he goes and does a fantastic job. He deserves to be in F1,” wrote Jos Verstappen.
