Yuki Tsunoda’s uncertain future
From a possible promotion to a future that needs to be rebuilt. It’s a strange winter for Yuki Tsunoda, who has been surpassed by Liam Lawson in Red Bull’s rankings and now – with the separation between Honda and the Milton Keynes team – could be looking for a new opportunity.
The worst news for the Japanese driver is that even Aston Martin, which will be powered by Honda starting in 2026, has no space for him: Fernando Alonso has a valid contract, while Lance Stroll’s seat is reserved as long as the team is managed by his father.
Jacques Villeneuve’s comments
If Yuki Tsunoda were to move away from the Red Bull universe, his future in F1 could indeed be uncertain. In fact, according to Jacques Villeneuve, it’s already written: “He will be the first driver to leave the grid; he’s there only because of Honda. But at some point, this situation will end. It’s clear that this is his last season with the Red Bull family,” the Canadian commented to Action Network. “I don’t see any team that wants him, unless there’s a big push from Honda.”
To avoid demoralizing Yuki Tsunoda before the season, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner advised the Japanese driver to stay ready in case the Liam Lawson experiment fails. But even if that were to happen, it would be difficult to imagine the #22 in Red Bull in 2026.
