Hadjar’s Red Bull debut
In just a few days, Isack Hadjar will officially make his Red Bull debut, but Racing Bulls CEO Peter Bayer has some strategic advice for the young driver. After only one season in Formula 1, Hadjar has earned a promotion to Red Bull and will race alongside Max Verstappen in 2026. The second seat at the Milton Keynes team, following Sergio Perez’s departure, has seen two drivers come and go: Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda. Lawson, the New Zealander, was replaced by Red Bull after just two races, while Tsunoda was not retained at the end of the season. Peter Bayer, who has closely observed Hadjar’s first steps in F1, shared his perspective on the upcoming challenge in Milton Keynes.
Facing new challenges
In an exclusive interview with Racingnews365 at the end of last season, Peter Bayer spoke not only about the atmosphere within the team but also offered valuable advice to Isack Hadjar for navigating his first season at Red Bull successfully. Bayer said, “I don’t think anyone goes there to compete against Max [Verstappen], because that would be the wrong approach from the very beginning. You have to go there and be proud to race for Red Bull Racing. You’ll be in a team where the pressure and focus are extremely high.”
Prepared for the challenge
According to Bayer, despite only one year in the pinnacle of motorsport, Isack Hadjar has all the qualities to handle the pressure and challenges that come with this new adventure in Formula 1. “But I think he’s well prepared. He’s intelligent, he’s physically trained, and we, as a team, have done everything possible to prepare him for this journey. For the rest, we’ll see,” Bayer concluded.
The promotion of Isack Hadjar is a testament to Red Bull’s faith in their junior academy, but Peter Bayer’s warning highlights the harsh reality of being Max Verstappen‘s teammate. By advising Hadjar not to measure himself directly against the Dutchman from day one, Bayer is encouraging a focus on personal growth and consistency—qualities that many of Isack Hadjar’s predecessors lacked under the Milton Keynes spotlight. As the 2026 season approaches, all eyes will be on whether Isack Hadjar can heed this advice and stabilize a seat that has ended the aspirations of many talented drivers before him.
