The 2025 Formula 1 season is about to begin. In a few days, the highly anticipated unveiling event for the 2025 liveries will take place at the O2 Arena in London. In the following days, all the cars will hit the track for the three-day pre-season test in Bahrain. According to many experts, the favorite to win the 2025 world title is Lando Norris in the McLaren. The British driver has now responded to this prediction.
Last season, Norris had, for the first time, a real chance to fight for something significant. Since Red Bull’s decline began—especially from the Miami GP, where Lando Norris secured his first F1 victory—the McLaren driver consistently challenged the number 1 Red Bull. Consider weekends like Imola, Barcelona, and Canada as examples.
However, despite having a vastly superior car, neither the driver nor the team managed to capitalize on their opportunities. McLaren made several strategic mistakes, and Norris himself had costly errors, particularly at race starts and in managing the team’s two drivers. In Hungary, for instance, when a win for car number 4 was crucial, McLaren allowed Oscar Piastri to take victory instead.
Despite these mistakes, the Woking-based team secured the Constructors’ Championship, a title they had not won since 1999. This strong performance positions them well for 2025, and many experts consider Lando Norris one of the top contenders for the Drivers’ Championship.
Lando Norris himself addressed the topic. “Me, the favorite for the title? I hope people make a lot of money betting on me. I would feel bad if I let them down after they put their money on me. But honestly, it’s not something that adds any pressure on me.” – he pointed out.
“Last year, things were the same. There were always high expectations, both for me and for the team. This time, I don’t feel any pressure from it at all. I know there are expectations—we have more partners, more sponsors, and more fans.”
“Regardless of how things go, I like hearing this kind of talk. I enjoy having a bit of pressure on my shoulders.”
