On the eve of the Mexican Grand Prix, Williams team principal James Vowles indirectly confirmed open discussions with Red Bull regarding Franco Colapinto. However, after the GP, Colapinto himself explained his situation and what’s in store for him in 2025 and beyond.
In recent days, speculation has intensified about his potential move to the Red Bull family. Among the theories, there was talk of him joining Racing Bulls to allow either Liam Lawson or Yuki Tsunoda to be promoted to Red Bull next season, potentially replacing Sergio Perez.
While the Mexican driver continues to dismiss rumors of his departure, it’s evident that his future with Red Bull appears increasingly uncertain, especially after his struggles at the Mexican Grand Prix.
Franco Colapinto to Red Bull in 2025? The denial arrives
Franco Colapinto has now denied speculation about a contract with the Austrian team. The Argentine driver will likely be without a seat in 2025. There’s no room for him at Williams, as Alexander Albon has been confirmed, and Carlos Sainz will be joining.
Despite informal talks between Williams and Red Bull, with Williams’ team principal James Vowles open to loaning out his reserve driver, Franco Colapinto has dismissed the rumors that he might be on the F1 grid next year.
“No, at the moment, I don’t really understand what people are talking about. I don’t know where these rumors come from. I don’t have a seat for next year and won’t be racing in Formula 1. I’ll probably be racing somewhere else,” the Argentine told F1TV.
“I won’t be here next year, but I hope to show everyone that I deserve a place in this category so that I can return in ’26 or ’27. That’s my goal, and that’s why I’m doing everything I can, race by race,” concluded the young Franco Colapinto.
