Hollywood star Brad Pitt experiences real F1 driving with McLaren before film premiere. Brad Pitt drives a McLaren F1 car for the first time ahead of the new F1 movie release.

The new F1 movie is coming out
After years of filming, including footage inside the paddock, and months of promotion, the new movie “F1” is hitting cinemas. Produced by Apple TV and featuring Lewis Hamilton, the film stars Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former young racing talent who, after a serious crash and wandering through various motorsport categories, returns to Formula 1 late in his career to help the APXGP team owned by an old friend and teammate. This role gave Pitt the chance to experience racing beyond Hollywood: the 61-year-old actor prepared for the role by personally driving racing cars. Recently, he also got the chance to drive a real F1 car at the Austin circuit.

Brad Pitt talks about testing the McLaren
Half award, half marketing move, Brad Pitt drove the McLaren MCL60 at the Circuit of the Americas — the annual venue for the United States Grand Prix — the same car that competed in the 2023 World Championship, marking Woking’s return to competitiveness. Pitt shared his excitement about the test: “I managed to reach a top speed of 197 miles per hour (about 317 km/h). I wanted to hit 200 and missing it hurts a bit. I fell short by only three miles per hour…”

“I have never experienced anything like it in my life,” Pitt continued in an interview with the official Formula 1 podcast, Beyond the Grid. “It’s a feeling of being completely present because you’re so focused but… you’re not doing flips or anything. You’re just there, in this sublime groove. It’s truly extraordinary. Every time I try to explain the feeling of the aerodynamic downforce in an F1 car, I always fail. You try to say it’s like a roller coaster, but it’s nowhere close. I once flew in an aerobatic plane and that’s the closest thing I’ve ever experienced. It’s a unique feeling, an absolute thrill.”

“I’m still buzzing and I can never thank Zak Brown enough for giving me a day like that on track with Lando Norris,” concluded Brad Pitt, star of the new film F1.
