As we’ve known for several months now, from next year there will be eleven teams on the grid. This naturally means that, in addition to the current 20 seats, two more will be added—still unoccupied. The first names for the Cadillac seats are beginning to emerge, and for former Haas TP Guenther Steiner, the choices are clear.
After years of waiting, the FIA has finally approved Cadillac’s entry into the top tier of motorsport as a new team. It will debut in the 2026 season, the first under the new regulations, under the umbrella of the American giant General Motors. Initially, until 2029, the power units will be supplied by Ferrari, after which Cadillac will begin using its own engines.
According to previous interviews given by team executives, construction of the factory began in 2025. “The building project calls for a high-quality facility costing 65–70 million dollars,” they told reporters. In short, it’s a major investment—but one piece is still missing: who will fill the two seats?
Right away, various names started circulating—some of active drivers, others no longer in the paddock. Sergio Perez is arguably the most talked about: after his bitter departure from Red Bull, the Mexican driver wants to prove his worth once again. Then there’s Mick Schumacher, Guanyu Zhou, and most recently, Valtteri Bottas, currently Mercedes’ third driver.
But the verdict, according to Crash.net, has been delivered by Guenther Steiner. The former team boss is sure: “If I were Cadillac, I’d go for experienced drivers. For a new, young team, the best thing to do is to rely on those who already have solid experience in the field. They would help the team take off and progress faster than a rookie could.”
“The two names that I believe would make the ideal lineup? Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez. I’d definitely choose those two.”
