The world of Formula 1 moves quickly, both on and off the track. Recent rumors are already looking ahead to 2026 and the driver market. With the entry of a new team, two additional seats become available. The latest speculation involves Daniel Ricciardo’s potential return to F1 with the Cadillac–General Motors team.
Cadillac–GM has finally secured its entry into the 2026 championship after a complicated process that even included issues surrounding the team’s name. The American outfit has already confirmed an agreement with Ferrari for the supply of power units to begin their Formula 1 journey.
Recently, it was also revealed that the team principal role will be filled by Graeme Lowdon, who has prior F1 experience as the sporting director of Manor between 2010 and 2016. Incidentally, 2016 was the last year Formula 1 featured an 11-team grid.
Cadillac-GM lineup: Daniel Ricciardo rules out a return
As for the driver lineup, it is still too early for official announcements. However, it’s never too early for rumors to circulate. Recent reports from Germany had identified Daniel Ricciardo as one of the frontrunners for one of the two seats.
In recent hours, ESPN has denied these rumors through “sources close to the driver.” Further confirmation came directly from Daniel Ricciardo himself. During an encounter with a fan, the former Red Bull driver effectively dismissed his involvement in the Cadillac–General Motors project with a very straightforward response.
“No Cadillac?” the fan asked, to which Daniel Ricciardo replied with a blunt “Nahh, I’m done.” This response clearly outlines the Honey Badger’s stance on a return to Formula 1.
