Sudden dismissal of Christian Horner from Red Bull: a former driver breaks the silence
Who better to understand the internal events at Red Bull than someone who has lived and raced within that environment? This is why, following the surprising dismissal of Christian Horner, a former Red Bull Junior Team driver has come forward to clarify some of the rumors circulating in the media.
The driver in question is Dan Ticktum, who was part of the Red Bull Junior Team from 2017 to 2019. The Austrian-backed development programme supported him through various series, including Formula Renault, GP3, Formula 3, Super Formula, and Formula 2. Several years after parting ways with the programme, the British driver has spoken out again about the team that backed his early single-seater career, focusing in particular on the departure of Christian Horner.
After the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Red Bull announced the dismissal of their team principal, Christian Horner, who stepped down after 20 years at the helm. The news shocked many, especially due to the timing rather than the fact of the dismissal itself.
“When I heard the departure was really that sudden? I don’t know,” Ticktum told GPblog. He continued with a warning for fans and followers. “I simply don’t believe anything I read in the media about it. Formula 1 is a real sewer of rumors and rubbish, so unless I hear something directly from both sides (or all parties face to face), I don’t pay attention to any of it.”
Returning to the topic of Horner’s sudden and immediate firing, the British driver shared his thoughts on the situation. “I know Helmut Marko has a reputation for dropping drivers in that manner, so it’s not impossible.” It has been reported that Christian Horner was informed of this decision only the day before it was made public.
