Antonelli makes it five in a row
Shanghai, Suzuka, Miami, Montreal and Monte Carlo. With an extraordinary streak of victories, Andrea Kimi Antonelli has taken firm control of the Formula 1 World Championship, opening up a 66-point lead over his closest rival.
It is a remarkable achievement that would have seemed almost unimaginable just a few months ago. Yet the 19-year-old Italian is already earning a place among some of the greatest names in Formula 1 history. Thanks to his latest triumph in Monaco, Antonelli has become only the tenth driver ever to win at least five consecutive Grands Prix.
The exclusive list
Only nine drivers before Antonelli had managed to achieve such a feat in Formula 1:
| Position | Driver | Consecutive wins | Period |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Max Verstappen | 10 | Miami GP 2023 – Italian GP 2023 |
| 2 | Sebastian Vettel | 9 | Belgian GP 2013 – Brazilian GP 2013 |
| 3 | Alberto Ascari* | 7 | Belgian GP 1952 – Argentine GP 1953 |
| 4 | Michael Schumacher | 7 | European GP 2004 – Hungarian GP 2004 |
| 5 | Nico Rosberg | 7 | Mexican GP 2015 – Russian GP 2016 |
| 6 | Jack Brabham | 5 | Dutch GP 1960 – Portuguese GP 1960 |
| 7 | Jim Clark** | 5 | Belgian GP 1965 – German GP 1965 |
| 8 | Nigel Mansell | 5 | South African GP 1992 – San Marino GP 1992 |
| 9 | Lewis Hamilton | 5 | Italian GP 2014 – United States GP 2014, Eifel GP 2020 – Bahrain GP 2020 |
| 10 | Andrea Kimi Antonelli | 5 | Chinese GP 2026 – Monaco GP 2026 |
*If only Grands Prix actually contested by the drivers are considered, Alberto Ascari’s streak increases to nine consecutive victories. It was interrupted by the Indianapolis 500, an event in which European teams did not participate.
**For the same reason, Jim Clark’s winning streak would increase from five to six victories.
Another record falls in Monaco
Monte Carlo was not only the scene of Antonelli’s fifth consecutive victory. The Mercedes driver also became the youngest driver in Formula 1 history to achieve a Grand Slam, securing pole position, victory, the fastest lap and leading every lap of the race.
The Bologna-born star shattered the previous record by more than four years, taking yet another milestone away from Max Verstappen and further strengthening his reputation as one of the most exciting talents the sport has ever seen.
At just 19 years of age, Antonelli is not only leading the world championship but is also rewriting sections of the Formula 1 record books with almost every passing race weekend.
