F1 | Barcelona tests, first 2026 crash: Red Bull wrecked into barriers
During the second day of pre-season testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, we witnessed the first major crash of the 2026 season. Isack Hadjar’s Red Bull slammed into the barriers at the exit of the final high-speed corner at Montmeló. Here’s a VIDEO showing the car stopped against the safety barriers.
Test, Day 2: a rainy session
Tuesday’s first day of testing was marked by rain across the Catalonia region, where the Barcelona circuit is located. The wet conditions kept many teams in the garage, waiting for better track conditions over the following days. On track, only two teams were active: Ferrari, with Charles Leclerc in the morning and Lewis Hamilton in the afternoon, and Red Bull, starting with Max Verstappen and finishing with Isack Hadjar.
The Milton Keynes team continued its work regardless. After running yesterday, their drivers returned to the track immediately to collect crucial data, particularly on the brand-new Red Bull Power Unit.
Hadjar’s crash
During the afternoon session, as shown in photos shared on X by FormulaNacho, Isack Hadjar’s Red Bull #8 went off at Turn 14, the final fast right-hander, and hit the barriers violently. The rear wing was completely destroyed, and the car had to be loaded onto a truck and returned to the pit lane.
Could this crash have serious consequences? Absolutely. It’s unclear whether Red Bull has enough spare parts to rebuild the car and allow Verstappen to complete his test program before heading to the Bahrain sessions.
For now, no official information has been released, but it’s likely that the RB22 will not be on track tomorrow.
