Fernando Alonso has revealed the special helmet he will wear during the Mexican GP to celebrate a historic record in Formula 1. Fernando Alonso continues to break records in the sport, and he has decided to commemorate his latest achievement with a unique helmet for the Mexico City race. For the Spaniard, this will be his 400th race, and he chose to celebrate it in his own way.
On his social media profiles, the Aston Martin driver showcased the helmet he designed himself, which will be worn during the Mexican weekend. “A special helmet for a special milestone,” the Aston Martin profile wrote.
Interestingly, all statistics indicate that the Mexican GP will actually be his 397th race. This number does not account for three missed starts, but it still does not change the fact that this is Fernando Alonso’s 400th weekend in Formula 1, marking an absolute record.
Fernando Alonso already holds the record for the most GP appearances, surpassing Lewis Hamilton, who has participated in 351 race weekends, while Kimi Raikkonen reached 349. (By the way, a curious statistic: the top three drivers with the most races in F1 have either raced or will race for Ferrari).
The Spaniard made his debut in the top tier of motorsport back in 2001 with the Minardi team and raced continuously from the 2003 season until 2018, before taking a three-season break and returning in 2021 with Alpine before moving to Aston Martin.
Fernando Alonso became world champion with Renault in 2005 and 2006. After his two world titles, he joined Scuderia Ferrari in 2010 and raced for the Maranello team until 2014, the year he switched to McLaren. In short, it has been a record-breaking career that shows no signs of ending.
