Fernando Alonso is betting on his team for the 2026 season. It will still take time to put everything together, but he is confident success is coming. The question is: when? “We are working hard to make sure it happens as quickly as possible,” says Alonso.
A major investment in staff and infrastructure
The team has made significant investments in technical staff, and their infrastructure projects have been nothing short of monumental. For several months now, Aston Martin Racing has positioned itself as a strong contender for Formula 1 titles in the coming seasons, with 2026 being the first real opportunity to make the step into the ranks of the top teams.
Approaching the new technical regulations
With the introduction of new technical regulations and the start of a new F1 era, intelligence and cleverness will be required. It is crucial to read between the lines of the rulebook, identifying the gray areas where the difference is made against rivals. In this regard, the arrival of Adrian Newey, followed by Enrico Cardile, positions the Silverstone team at the forefront—at least on paper.
Alonso’s renewed trust in Aston Martin
All of this convinced Fernando Alonso to renew his trust in the team owned by the consortium led by Lawrence Stroll. The Asturian patiently endured some rather bitter moments over the last two seasons, justified by a vision that needed to be clear, favorable, and welcoming. Alonso wanted an environment capable of giving him the tools to fight for a Formula 1 world title again, 13 years after his last championship in 2012 with Ferrari.
“Just as when I signed my last contract, I also believe that in 2026 we will have the best package. The factory is complete. The wind tunnel is brand new and ready. We are already using it,” said Alonso, hopeful of leveraging the new facilities as early as 2026.
Top-tier engineering talent at Aston Martin
But it isn’t just the physical infrastructure at Silverstone that excites Alonso. Having engineers of the caliber of Adrian Newey, Andy Cowell, and Enrico Cardile is a rare opportunity, and having them all together at the same time is even more exceptional.
“We have Adrian Newey, Andy Cowell, Enrico Cardile with us. We have fantastic people and great talent in the factory. We just need to put everything in place and make sure all those facilities are fully operational.”
Time is needed to assemble everything
Everything at Aston Martin is brand new. And when that is the case, time is needed to put it all together. Alonso is certain that Aston Martin will succeed. The legitimate question—considering his age—is: when?
“People have only been in the system for a few months. These few months will be enough. We need a full season to put everything together. That’s the point.”
“I don’t know exactly when Aston Martin will succeed. But for me, success is guaranteed. The most important question is: when? That is what all of us are working to achieve—ensuring success as soon as possible.”
Fernando Alonso’s conviction suggests that Aston Martin has moved beyond the building phase and is now entering the execution phase. While the 2026 regulations will be the true litmus test, the combination of world-class facilities and the most decorated designer in F1 history has transformed the team’s ambitions from mere hope to a perceived certainty of future glory.
