Fernando Alonso spotted in Monaco driving one of the rarest Mercedes ever made. Fernando Alonso enjoys the streets of Monaco in an ultra-rare CLK GTR.

Fernando Alonso, 2024 F1

Fernando Alonso was spotted in Monaco driving an ultra-exclusive car, and a video of the moment quickly went viral. The Spanish F1 driver showed off a Mercedes CLK GTR, a supercar worth a fortune.

Alonso finished the 2025 Formula 1 season in tenth place, scoring 56 points. Behind the wheel of the Aston Martin, he once again demonstrated his talent, challenging top drivers such as Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, and Charles Leclerc. During the break before the start of the new season, Alonso has been enjoying some downtime and the Christmas holidays in the Principality of Monaco. This location is very popular in Formula 1, not just for the Monte Carlo track, but also because many drivers choose to live there due to its favorable living conditions.

In Monaco, driving an ultra-rare car on the streets can be surprisingly normal. That’s exactly what happened to Fernando Alonso, who was captured in a viral video driving a Mercedes CLK GTR with his partner Melissa Jimenez through the streets of the city. This is far from an ordinary car: it is an incredibly rare and expensive model with very few units in the world.

The Mercedes CLK GTR is a limited-edition supercar (adapted for the road) with just 26 units produced. Its striking and aggressive design comes from its original purpose as a race car, created back in 1997, nearly 30 years ago. The car is powered by a unique V12 engine and features a design that makes it truly spectacular. Alonso was cruising Monaco in a vehicle that, at the time of production, was sold for between €1.5 and €2 million.

However, that price is now outdated. Today, the value of the Mercedes CLK GTR exceeds €10 million, and in some cases can reach between €13 and €15 million. While it is not unusual for Alonso or other Formula 1 drivers to be spotted driving luxury or rare cars, this particular moment went viral because Alonso was out in public in Monaco during a peak tourist period, making it highly visible and widely shared online.

The Mercedes CLK GTR is not just a status symbol, but a masterpiece of engineering that bridges the gap between the golden age of GT racing and the modern supercar era. By taking such a rare beast out onto the public roads of the Principality, Fernando Alonso has once again delighted the F1 community, proving that even during his downtime, he remains inextricably linked to the highest levels of automotive excellence.
