Alonso expresses his worry about the Aston Martin project after a weekend in Miami where the car never found performance. The start of the season for the English team is even worse than last year despite the numerous investments. Even Alonso is not bringing in results for the team. Lance Stroll is effectively the only driver who has scored points for the team, which is currently in seventh place in the Constructors’ Championship.
The standings show Stroll in 10th position with 14 points, while Alonso is still stuck on 0. In the first American trip, the car’s performance was clearly the worst when compared to the competition. Both drivers were significantly behind the rest of the group, highlighting all the flaws of a project that can’t seem to find its way. It will take a miracle from Adrian Newey to turn around the fortunes of the historic car manufacturer.
Fernando’s concerns
As we mentioned, Fernando Alonso expressed concern about Aston Martin’s performance in the Miami Grand Prix. He emphasized that even in the previous races, the performance was not better, and finding pace is crucial at all costs. Upgrades could arrive at the European races, but much of the attention will likely be focused on the 2026 Formula 1 car.
“Two years ago at this track, we were fighting for the podium and I was one of the fastest. We were looking at this and, in terms of performance, I am still at that level. Compared to 2023, I’ve done even better since I was still adapting to the car and the team at that time.” This suggests that the problem isn’t the driver, but the car lacks rhythm.
“Now we are on the other side of the group. There are aspects we need to understand and work on. We try to stay united and do it all together. We’ve always faced challenges, but usually, qualifying goes better than expected, and we start ahead of where we should be. Then we get caught in DRS trains, follow other cars, there are contacts or small mistakes that make us finish in P11 or something like that.” – the former McLaren and Ferrari driver concluded.
