The final part of Fernando Alonso’s 2024 Formula 1 season has been more challenging than ever. As the Triple Header in Brazil approaches, further news arrives that is not entirely reassuring regarding Fernando Alonso’s health.
The health of a Formula 1 driver is, of course, crucial for maintaining performance at the top level. Already at the last Mexican Grand Prix, the Spaniard was absent from Media Day due to some health issues for the 42-year-old driver.
Despite these initial issues arising last Wednesday, Fernando Alonso still took to the track to participate in the weekend with his AMR24. It was an important GP, marking his 400th start in the top racing series. However, the significant milestone for the Spaniard ended prematurely with his retirement from Sunday’s GP.
Fernando Alonso still not at 100%
About a week later, Fernando Alonso’s health is still not optimal. Aston Martin recently announced that the Spaniard will once again skip the Media Day scheduled for tomorrow in São Paulo for the GP. This is likely due to the intestinal infection he suffered from during the Mexican weekend.
As communicated by his team, Fernando Alonso returned to Europe for further medical examinations with a specialist. According to the team’s statement, the 42-year-old driver assures that he will be ready for this weekend’s GP, which will be packed with on-track activities due to the sprint weekend.
Should the Spaniard’s condition not be adequate to handle the Brazilian event, Aston Martin may call in their reserve driver, in this case, Felipe Drugovich, who would have the opportunity to race in front of his home crowd. We will see how Fernando Alonso’s health situation develops ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend.
