Fernando Alonso is still hungry
This summer, he’ll blow out 44 candles on his cake, but his hunger, competitive drive, and desire to compete remain that of a twenty-year-old. Aston Martin F1 champion Fernando Alonso reminded us of this once again in an interview with the Spanish division of streaming network Dazn, which recently released the documentary *Decoded* dedicated to the two-time world champion’s career. The driver from Oviedo, who is unanimously recognized in Spain as the person who made a couple of generations of fans passionate about motorsport, discussed the effects of his intense desire to race.
Fernando Alonso in F1 like in go-karts
“Even today, after more than 20 years,” Alonso said in the interview, “if I go to a go-kart track and see that I’m half a tenth off the fastest lap, I still feel that innate anger. The same frustration, the same competitive fire I had in the beginning. I could even go to bed without dinner.” In the same interview, Fernando also shared that he has spent his entire career almost never having the same equipment as his rivals, starting from karting all the way to Formula 1.
How diet changes at 40
Despite the competitive fire and innate drive, Fernando Alonso admitted that, physically, there are changes happening in his 43-year-old body compared to when he was a young athlete: “I think you also have to adapt your body to the passing of time. At 40, you can’t eat the same things you ate at 20. The muscle mass is different from when you were younger. So I changed my diet, did some research with the help of nutritionists, and I’m following a diet similar to a vegetarian one. But I still feel very strong.” – the former Ferrari and McLaren driver concluded.
Adrian Newey will be glad to hear that, as in a few weeks, Fernando Alonso will finally start working with him at Aston Martin F1…
