Fernando Alonso did not hold back when assessing the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The Aston Martin driver, who finished the race in eleventh place, described the entire weekend as extremely difficult to manage. According to Fernando Alonso, several factors contributed to the disappointing experience, starting with the unusually cold temperatures and the specific type of asphalt used throughout the circuit.
“The track is fun because it is very fast, but I think the type of asphalt is not the standard Formula 1 one. To be honest, it is too slippery and we cannot get the tyres up to temperature, and there is no grip. It is extremely bumpy, almost at the limit of safety for racing,” he explained.
The two-time World Champion stressed that the Federation must intervene before the event returns next season. “So I think that for the future we will have to talk with the FIA to see if this solution will be acceptable or not for the years to come,” he added.
A time-zone shift that is too hard to handle
With Formula 1 now heading to Qatar and then Abu Dhabi for back-to-back race weekends, Fernando Alonso ended his interview by pointing out how damaging this triple-header is for the drivers, especially after such a demanding time shift.
“Coming here with the time zone and the distance from Europe and from Brazil two weeks ago and going straight to Qatar now, with a 17-hour flight and a 13-hour time difference. I don’t think any other sport in the world would accept something like this. There are many aspects that should be reviewed and should not be pushed into the background,” he concluded.
With fatigue already a hot topic inside the paddock after a record 24-race season, Fernando Alonso’s outspoken criticism adds more pressure on Formula 1 and the FIA to rethink both the Las Vegas circuit resurfacing plans and the grueling late-year scheduling when the 2026 calendar is finalised.
