Fernando Alonso after ninth at Montmeló: “Great to score points, but there’s work to do”. Fernando Alonso secured his first points of the season with a ninth-place finish at Montmeló,.

When the home crowd brings emotion and pleasant surprises: Fernando Alonso finally manages to break the curse by securing his first points of the season. It all happened at Montmeló, in a race where plot twists and strategy played a key role in allowing the Spanish driver to finish in the top 10.

Right there, in front of his fans, Fernando Alonso found his smile again. An undeniable happiness, though it didn’t stop the Spaniard from offering a detailed analysis of the race: “I felt very happy for the points. But I was expecting a bit more from the race. I felt more competitive in qualifying. We had a lot of degradation,” admitted the Spaniard. “After just a few laps the tyres were gone. Also, we can’t fully exploit our speed and we struggle to overtake. We need to improve a bit in straight-line speed and degradation. This is the third time we’ve reached Q3 and the first time we’ve managed to convert it into points. If we keep working hard on the areas that are still creating trouble for us on track, I’m sure we can build more solid weekends,” he concluded at the end of the Spanish Grand Prix in front of his home fans.

Aston Martin thus returns to the points, remaining second to last in the constructors’ standings but now with sixteen points, widening the gap to Alpine. The upgrades introduced in Imola have made the British car more competitive in some areas, but there’s still plenty of work to do. And while Adrian Newey is already working on the 2026 car, there is hope that the AMR25 can keep finishing in the points in the upcoming races.
