Max Verstappen’s test at the Nürburgring
It’s no secret that Max Verstappen enjoys endurance racing, and the four-time world champion confirmed it in recent days by taking part in a “secret” test — under a pseudonym — on the legendary German circuit at the wheel of a Ferrari 296, alongside all the other GT3 cars on track for the third round of the NLS season, the German championship organized by the ADAC, the equivalent of the ACI.
The Dutch driver, using the alias Franz Hermann, confirmed that he broke the lap record and expressed his desire to one day race in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, provided he’s able to obtain the “Nordschleife permit,” a special license required to take part in official NLS events and the legendary endurance race scheduled for June 19–22. This year, the dates don’t conflict with the F1 calendar, but Super Max admitted he doesn’t know when he’ll actually be able to take part.
Max Verstappen’s words
“They asked me for a fake name, otherwise people would’ve been up at 8 in the morning knowing I was on the entry list. This way everything was fairly quiet. I broke the lap record, but that wasn’t why I was there. I was just having fun and getting to know the track with the team, since they hadn’t been there before. Their dream is to do the 24 Hours, so we enjoyed getting familiar with the circuit. We were lucky with the weather too — it was really nice and sunny,” said Verstappen at Imola. “The name? I wanted it to be as German as possible…”
“I’d like to race the 24 Hours in the future, which is why I’m doing all these things to prepare, to get some experience now so I don’t have to do it later,” he added. “We’re talking with the organizers about how to make it work, because my schedule is very full. I know what’s required, but I can’t say when it will be possible.”
