Following the agreement reached with Valtteri Bottas, Cadillac has officially selected the driver who will join him for the American team’s highly anticipated Formula 1 debut in 2026.
Just a few hours ago, news emerged of the agreement between Cadillac and Valtteri Bottas, signaling the Finnish driver’s role in the team’s first F1 season. Initially, there had been speculation that the second seat might be offered to Sergio Perez, especially given Alpine’s interest in the Mexican driver. However, the situation has now taken a decisive turn.

Recent reports indicate that Graeme Lowdon, the executive responsible for Cadillac’s F1 project, decided to pursue Sergio Perez with renewed determination. Continuous discussions over the past few days between the team and the driver have led to a formal agreement, meaning Perez will officially join Cadillac alongside Bottas for the 2026 season. This decision rules out other potential candidates such as Zhou Guanyu, Felipe Drugovich, and Mick Schumacher. Schumacher, however, is expected to take on the role of third driver, with possible involvement in Cadillac’s programs in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) as well.
The formation of this driver lineup creates a pair rich in experience and proven talent. Such a combination should not be underestimated, as it will provide Cadillac with invaluable feedback and guidance while navigating the inevitable challenges of entering Formula 1. The debut season will be demanding, and having two highly experienced drivers like Bottas and Perez on board will be critical in helping the team establish a solid foundation.
The official announcement is expected by the end of the summer break, after which Cadillac will be able to fully plan and organize all the steps necessary to prepare for its landmark entry into Formula 1. With Perez and Bottas providing insights both on and off the track, the team is positioning itself to face the challenges of its first season in the championship with as much preparation as possible.
