Alpine F1 Team has officially addressed the rumors suggesting that Toto Wolff is preparing to acquire a 24% stake in the team from Otro Capital, potentially beating Christian Horner to the purchase. The response came directly from Alpine’s headquarters in Enstone, as the paddock speculates about the future of the Mercedes-powered French team.
Otro Capital ready to sell 24%
Speculation intensified on Monday after Flavio Briatore confirmed that the American fund Otro Capital is seeking buyers for its 24% share in Alpine. Mercedes has stated to GPblog that it is “constantly informed of the latest developments” regarding its “key strategic partner.”
The prospect of Wolff’s involvement would be a major twist, given his historically tense relationship with Christian Horner. Both team principals could potentially compete to acquire the same minority stake in the French outfit, creating a high-stakes scenario in Formula 1’s off-track politics.
Alpine’s official response
When contacted by GPblog, Alpine opted for a diplomatic response. The team stated: “The team is regularly approached by multiple parties and potential investors. We do not comment on specific names or individuals.”
Alpine clarified that any discussions concern only existing shareholders and interested parties. “The team’s priority remains the immediate task: the start of the season and a consistent return to performance on track,” the statement concluded.
Renault maintains majority control
Regardless of how negotiations unfold, Renault will retain control of Alpine with 76% of the shares. The team, which switched to Mercedes engines for 2026, scored a single point at the Australian Grand Prix thanks to Pierre Gasly’s tenth-place finish.
The 2025 season ended with only 22 points and last place in the Constructors’ Championship, a scenario that makes attracting new investors even more urgent to revitalize the French F1 project.
As Alpine navigates this complex period of restructuring and technical transition, the interest from high-profile figures like Toto Wolff and Christian Horner underscores the high strategic value of the Enstone project. The coming months will reveal whether a new power dynamic will emerge within the team as they strive to climb back up the Formula 1 standings.
