However, Oscar Piastri acknowledged that he did not deliver his best lap in SQ3 and considers himself almost lucky to have secured third for the Sprint start. The issue was not with the car, as its pace already looked strong during free practice, but rather with the “disorganized” lap Oscar Piastri put together at the end of the session.
Despite this, the McLaren driver reassured fans, saying that “it’s nothing serious” and that he already knows where adjustments are needed for today’s main qualifying. He will now focus on the Sprint race and aims to achieve better results than those from yesterday.
Piastri after Friday in Austin
Oscar Piastri immediately took responsibility for his shootout qualifying result at the end of the day, emphasizing that the car has good pace.
“My lap was rather disorganized, I’d say. I just couldn’t put everything together in SQ3. So in part I feel lucky to be in third place,” admitted the Australian. “But I believe the car’s pace is good. It’s nothing serious. It’s not that it was a disastrous day from start to finish. It was simply a slightly messy lap, and I hope to fix everything for Saturday.”
“I know where I need to adjust the car for normal qualifying. So now we will aim to have a good Sprint in the morning and then perfect the car in the afternoon.”
Finally, speaking about today’s Sprint race, the Drivers’ Championship leader was cautious in his words.
“We’ll see what happens at the start. We need to start well and try to be in the right position. Although here, sometimes it’s tricky to know the right spot in turn one. We’ll see what happens,” he concluded.
