Five in a row. Andrea Kimi Antonelli has claimed the fifth Grand Prix victory of his Formula 1 career, delivering a masterclass performance by leading from the first lap to the last around the unforgiving streets of Monaco.
The young Italian put on a driving lesson for the entire grid. This victory was not merely a matter of power unit superiority or a dominant chassis; instead, Antonelli built his confidence on the Principality’s tight layout by completely overturning his car’s setup between Friday and Saturday. He then converted that hard work into a flawless result using sheer talent, unwavering concentration, dedication, and a fierce will to win.
The race result was simply the natural outcome of a psychological and technical process that Antonelli started a long time ago, and he is now fully ready to reap the rewards. However, the first thoughts of the Bologna-born Mercedes driver were directed straight toward his crew.
Flawless execution from the Mercedes garage
The Brackley-based squad, led by Toto Wolff, executed every single operation perfectly from Friday morning through to Sunday evening. Antonelli’s only task—not that it was an easy one—was to fulfill his duty: extract the absolute maximum from the W17 and bring home the best possible result.
“It’s an incredible moment,” Antonelli said at the conclusion of the Monaco Grand Prix. “Clearly, the season is still very long and there are still many races left before the end. Every weekend will be a new experience, but for now, things have gone great and we are doing an incredible job with the team.”
“We are executing everything in the best possible way, we aren’t letting ourselves get caught up in the moment, and we are just trying to stay focused on what lies ahead of us to execute it to the absolute best of our abilities. This weekend we did very well from that point of view, especially the team.”
“They managed to completely turn our weekend around in the most positive sense of the word, changing the setup significantly and allowing me to have even more confidence in the car.”
Conquering the mental demons of the 2025 season
After thanking his team, Andrea Kimi offered a rare glimpse into his own mindset, shedding light on the immense sporting growth he has displayed from the Chinese Grand Prix up to today. He detailed exactly how he chose to confront immense public pressure—the very factor that severely hindered him during his rookie campaign.
“Now I try to accept the pressure as much as I can, because I don’t want it to destroy me like it did last year during the European season,” the young Italian star admitted candidly.
“So I try to live with it. I’m trying to enjoy the challenge as much as possible without worrying about anything else other than driving.”
“Today was an excellent test because when the red flag came out, I won’t lie, I was a bit annoyed. I had to do a mental reset for the second start and it wasn’t easy. But it was a good test from that perspective, and I am very happy that I didn’t fail.”
In summary, Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s commanding performance at the Monaco Grand Prix showcases a driver who has successfully learned to manage immense psychological pressure, allowing him and the Mercedes team to bounce back from difficult practice sessions and secure a vital victory that drastically extends his lead in the World Championship standings.
