Cadillac finalizes its 2026 Formula 1 lineup and addresses Christian Horner speculation
The 2026 Formula 1 season is already heating up well before the Dutch Grand Prix weekend, as Cadillac has officially revealed its driver lineup while also putting an end to weeks of speculation surrounding Christian Horner. The American outfit confirmed that Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas will return to the grid in 2026, bringing with them a wealth of experience to support the brand-new project. At the same time, Cadillac’s management clarified that Horner will not be making a comeback with their team, contrary to what recent rumors had suggested.
Perez and Bottas return to the Formula 1 grid
For several days, rumors had been circulating about Cadillac’s plans, and today they became official. Although some fans and analysts expected a different timeline, the team confirmed that both Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez will compete for Cadillac from the very beginning of the new regulatory era in 2026. Their combined Formula 1 experience is considered essential to guide the rookie team through its first steps on the grid.
Bottas, a ten-time Grand Prix winner and former Mercedes driver, will bring his technical knowledge and deep understanding of car development at the top level. Perez, who has been a key part of Red Bull Racing in recent years and achieved multiple victories alongside Max Verstappen, will provide equally valuable expertise. With their backgrounds in leading teams such as Mercedes and Red Bull, both drivers are expected to be crucial assets in helping Cadillac shape its first Formula 1 car and establish itself competitively.
Observers are eager to see what level of performance the new Cadillac single-seater will reach and how well its driver pairing will adapt to leading a completely new project on the world’s biggest motorsport stage.
Cadillac denies Christian Horner rumors
The announcement also included an official clarification regarding Christian Horner. The former Red Bull Racing Team Principal had left his position suddenly just before the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, after months of speculation and tension within the Milton Keynes team. This fueled reports that Horner could immediately return to Formula 1 by joining Cadillac, taking over as the face of the American project. However, Cadillac executives have now made it clear that no such move is planned.
Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsport – the company that owns and operates Cadillac’s Formula 1 team – addressed the matter directly. He stated: “There have been no conversations with Christian. There was never a plan regarding him. I would like to officially close this rumor.” With this statement, Towriss confirmed that Horner will not be returning to Formula 1 with Cadillac, ending weeks of speculation among fans and insiders.
Full support for Graeme Lowdon
Instead of bringing in a high-profile figure like Christian Horner, Cadillac has decided to place its full confidence in its existing leadership structure. Dan Towriss emphasized that the team continues to support its current Team Principal, Graeme Lowdon, who has been entrusted with guiding Cadillac through its ambitious entry into Formula 1. Towriss underlined: “We support Graeme Lowdon 100%.”
This stance confirms Cadillac’s strategy of building on the knowledge and experience of its own management team, complemented by the expertise of seasoned drivers Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas. By focusing on stability and continuity, the American squad hopes to create a strong foundation for success rather than reshaping its structure around an external figure such as Horner.
Looking ahead to 2026
With the driver lineup confirmed and leadership doubts removed, Cadillac can now focus entirely on the technical development of its Formula 1 project. The arrival of new regulations in 2026 will level the playing field to some extent, offering fresh opportunities for a newcomer to establish itself. Bottas and Perez, both highly experienced and proven at the highest level, will play a decisive role in translating that opportunity into performance on track.
As anticipation builds towards 2026, Cadillac’s clarity on Christian Horner’s future and its faith in Graeme Lowdon provide a clear picture of the team’s direction: relying on stability, experience, and a structured approach rather than chasing dramatic leadership changes. The next chapter for Cadillac in Formula 1 is set, and fans will be watching closely to see how this ambitious project takes shape on the grid.
