There is a sense of confidence at Mercedes after the first day of F1 testing in Bahrain, at least judging by the words of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell.
The Italian driver ran in the morning session, while the Briton took over in the afternoon. The Silver Arrows have little to complain about: the young rookie set the fastest time and showed great speed. However, he urges caution.

“It was my first morning in the car, and it was a good session,” Kimi Antonelli commented in a press release issued by Mercedes.
“I really enjoyed getting behind the wheel of the W16 and working through our program. It was nice to start building a feeling with the car and complete some laps. We finished our program, but there is still a lot of work to do over the next two days, so I’m looking forward to getting back on track tomorrow,” he added.

His teammate shared similar impressions: “It was great to get in the W16 for the first day of testing and start understanding more about the car,” George Russell explained in a press release.
“It was a positive day because everything went smoothly, and we were able to work through our program, despite the interruption due to the power outage in the afternoon!” he added, referring to the electrical failure that hit the paddock, forcing a one-hour session stoppage.
“It’s only the first day, and the cold conditions are unusual for Bahrain, so we can’t read too much into performance at the moment. However, we can be satisfied with today’s work and look forward to getting back on track tomorrow,” concluded Mercedes driver #63.
