Adrian Newey’s absence
As highlighted in yesterday’s article regarding Aston Martin’s current situation, the last time team principal Adrian Newey was seen at a Formula 1 race weekend dates back to March 8, during the opening round of the 2026 season in Melbourne. An absence that is beginning to attract attention, especially considering the unexpected difficulties currently being faced by the British team.
The Daily Mail report: Newey hospitalised
An explanation for his absence was provided by journalist Jonathan McEvoy in the pages of the Daily Mail.
“I can reveal that Adrian Newey has been dealing with a period of illness that required hospital treatment. The 67-year-old was not in Miami last weekend because he was recovering from a condition that had been troubling him for several weeks. A well-informed source revealed that Newey is currently working mainly from home in the village of Sunninghill, Berkshire.”
Aston Martin’s response
The Daily Mail later contacted Aston Martin for an official reply. The British team responded by attempting to downplay the rumours coming from England.
“We do not comment on personal matters concerning any member of our team. Adrian is working and was at the factory last week.”
The recent reports regarding Adrian Newey’s health and his absence from the Formula 1 paddock highlight the immense pressure and scrutiny placed on the sport’s most influential technical figures. While Aston Martin has moved to downplay the severity of the situation, the performance of the AMR26 remains a key focus for fans and analysts alike. Despite rumors of hospitalization, Aston Martin maintains that Adrian Newey remains active and focused on his duties from the factory, ensuring that the team’s development path continues forward during this challenging period of the season.
