Alexander Albon is gearing up for the Thailand Grand Prix in Bangkok, giving high praise to the proposed circuit by calling it “the best street track in the world.” The Williams driver has been involved in some stages of the track’s planning and is confident that the races will be spectacular. Although the agreement is not yet finalized, construction of the 5.7 km circuit in Bangkok could begin soon.
Formula 1 could soon add a new city and a new night race to its calendar. The Thai government’s proposal aims to secure a contract for at least five years, ideally from 2028 to 2032. Alexander Albon, the only Thai driver on the grid, has been closely associated with the project.
“I wouldn’t say I had a direct influence on the project,” Alexander Albon told Speedcafe. “They involved me to show what they were working on. I saw the early stages, where they had reached and what they had shared on social media. In terms of city circuits, this is definitely one of the best. Drivers love street tracks, and there’s no doubt about that.”
A Thailand GP: Alexander Albon’s hopes
“I think the layout presented by Thailand is an excellent middle ground,” Alexander Albon continued. “There are many opportunities for different racing lines, which is key to a good race: getting the cars off the usual line and finding clean air in different places. For me, that is absolutely a positive.”
“Of course, I might be biased, but I believe Thailand is an incredible location. I would love to introduce the other drivers to Thai culture, and I think everyone would enjoy the race. I will do everything possible to make it happen.”
Alexander Albon also emphasized: “If you look at the recent additions of street circuits to Formula 1, I think this one surpasses them all.”
With construction potentially starting soon and the Thai government fully behind the project, Alexander Albon’s dream of racing on home soil is closer than ever. When – not if – the Bangkok Grand Prix joins the calendar, expect one very happy Thai-British driver leading the cheers.
