Esteban Ocon has ruled out racing in another category in 2027 and says he is prepared to accept a Formula 1 reserve-driver role if that is what it takes to remain in the paddock and work towards a return to the grid.
The French driver has already confirmed that his relationship with Haas will end at the conclusion of the season, leaving him without a race seat for next year. Esteban Ocon nevertheless remains determined to continue his Formula 1 career and believes he still has another five to seven years at the highest level.
Esteban Ocon prepares for life after Haas
Esteban Ocon and Haas have already announced that their partnership will end after the current season. The Frenchman first entered Formula 1 with Manor in 2016 and has since established a lengthy career in the championship.
His record includes one Grand Prix victory, achieved with Alpine at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix, as well as four podium finishes.
With no race seat secured for 2027, Esteban Ocon is now considering the possibility of spending a season on the sidelines while remaining attached to a Formula 1 team.
Ocon rules out racing in another category in 2027
Speaking during the press conference ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, Esteban Ocon made clear that competing elsewhere is not part of his current plan.
Instead, the Haas driver is willing to take a reserve position and wait for another opportunity to return to the Formula 1 grid.
“I want to be in F1 for the next five to seven years, I deserve it,” Esteban Ocon said. “So I won’t race anywhere else in 2027 and, if I have to accept a reserve-driver role, I’ll accept it.”
The decision underlines Esteban Ocon’s determination to remain part of Formula 1 even if he is unable to secure a full-time seat immediately after leaving Haas.
Rather than beginning a new chapter in another championship, the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix winner is prepared to spend 2027 waiting for the opportunity to return to a Formula 1 race seat.
