Lando Norris took home the Miami Grand Prix, marking his first career victory in F1, and thanked… Donald Trump. The former and future U.S. president was present in the Miami paddock among numerous celebrities who came to watch the race. At the end, he unexpectedly congratulated the McLaren driver.
Trump, a surprise guest at Hard Rock Stadium, was seen chatting with McLaren CEO Zak Brown, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, and top officials from F1 and Liberty Media during a visit to the McLaren garage before the Grand Prix.
Lando Norris later shared that it was a “nice moment” when Donald Trump approached him to congratulate him on his victory. “Honestly, when he was in the garage, I didn’t see him—I was too focused on getting ready for the race. But afterward, when I saw him, he came over to congratulate me personally, and I didn’t expect that,” said the British driver.
“So I guess it’s an honor, because whenever you have someone like him in front of you, it’s got to be an honor for him to come to you. The fact that he took time from his life to acknowledge what I’ve done was surprising to me.”
“After the race, he even told me that he was my ‘good luck charm,’ so now I should hope he comes to more races. Maybe he’ll bring me the same luck he brought here in Miami. I want to thank everyone who came out for this race weekend. Seeing all these people was truly thrilling. I have to say every single moment was truly unforgettable,” Lando Norris concluded after his historic first Formula 1 victory.
