No Texas for the Honey Badger
This weekend, Formula 1 will return to the track for the United States Grand Prix, scheduled at the Texas circuit of the Circuit of the Americas, after nearly a month of inactivity. However, one of the most beloved drivers among American fans will not be present: Daniel Ricciardo. The Honey Badger from Perth has been sidelined by the Racing Bulls team after the Singapore race to make way for New Zealander Liam Lawson. For the #3 driver, this seems to many like a definitive farewell to the Circus, and some even fear they may never see Daniel Ricciardo behind the wheel of a race car again, even in other categories.
The retirement cap
These rumors have been amplified by an image posted on Instagram by his friend, former driver, and now podcast host Adam Cianciarulo. In the shot, Daniel Ricciardo is seen posing for a photo with friends. However, everyone’s attention was drawn to the cap worn by the former Red Bull, Renault, and McLaren driver. It reads: “I’m retired, my job is to have fun.”
The current impression is that the 35-year-old, who has won eight GPs in his career, is not particularly interested in testing himself in other categories, despite having several potentially open doors in other series, especially IndyCar and NASCAR. However, there remains the possibility that Daniel Ricciardo simply wants to take a break from motorsport and may consider returning to his roots in the future, seeking new adventures on four wheels.
