Daniel Ricciardo found himself at the center of attention following a surprising departure from Formula 1 during the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. The Racing Bulls team replaced him with Liam Lawson. Peter Bayer, the CEO, explained that the announcement of Ricciardo’s exit was delayed out of respect for the driver’s wishes:
“Ricciardo believed until the very end that he could turn things around in qualifying and showed incredible mental strength despite retiring in Q1. The team would have still liked to give him a proper farewell in Abu Dhabi if he had stayed until the end of the season.”
Daniel Ricciardo: “I’m trying to understand who I am”
Since leaving Formula 1, Daniel Ricciardo has chosen a calmer and more reflective life. During a recent public appearance in Australia, he admitted:
“I’m not shaving my face; the beard is my comfort right now. This year has been a time of self-exploration… I’ve been hiking, traveled to Alaska, and I wasn’t attacked by grizzly bears, which is a bonus. I’m trying to discover who I am beyond being a racing driver.”
Will we see Daniel Ricciardo back in Formula 1?
Daniel Ricciardo’s departure from Formula 1 shocked many within the paddock, where the Australian driver was seen not only as a natural talent but also as one of the most charismatic personalities in the sport. Several colleagues expressed regret at no longer seeing him on the grid, highlighting how his presence brought lightness and good humor even during the most tense moments of the season. His ability to combine performance with entertainment will remain one of the defining features of his Formula 1 career. It is not excluded that in the future he could return in some capacity related to motorsport, perhaps as an ambassador or commentator.
