From the Barcelona round onwards, Colton Herta will step into a more prominent role with Cadillac. However, the American driver will not become a full-time race driver for the newly established team. Instead, he is set to participate in all four FP1 sessions reserved for young drivers, a requirement that every Formula 1 team must fulfill during the season.
Herta, who is currently competing in Formula 2 with the Hitech team, is widely regarded as one of the most promising talents aiming to reach Formula 1. This opportunity with Cadillac represents a significant milestone in his career and could serve as a crucial stepping stone toward securing a future full-time seat in the pinnacle of motorsport.
These were the words of Colton Herta following the joint decision made with Cadillac: “I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the Cadillac Formula 1 Team car for the first time. I am really excited to work closely with the team in a real Grand Prix environment and I am fully focused on learning as much as possible from every outing. I hope I can contribute throughout the entire race weekend and help the team, Checo and Valtteri as much as possible.”
Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon praised Herta’s talent and his encouraging start in Formula 2, stating: “Colton is a top-level talent, and he has proven that not only by building an impressive résumé in IndyCar before joining us, but also with a very strong start to his Formula 2 season. Completing all four of our FP1 sessions dedicated to young drivers is the natural next step in his role as a test driver, and I am looking forward to seeing what he can bring in terms of development and focus.”
