Christian Horner made a call to Red Bull to support Max Verstappen in the battle for the 2025 drivers’ championship: “We need to help Max stay in the fight against Norris and Oscar Piastri.” The team principal spoke after the Spanish GP, where Max Verstappen finished only tenth due to a 10-second penalty for contact with George Russell. The gap to Oscar Piastri has grown to 49 points.
Red Bull tried a three-stop strategy, interrupted by the safety car after Kimi Antonelli’s crash. Max Verstappen was fighting for the podium, possibly even second place. Instead, he scored just one point. “The MCL39 is the car to beat,” Horner told the media, including RacingNews365.
“They have two strong drivers and a very good car. We need to improve the RB21, or they will pull away,” Christian Horner added. Max Verstappen has fought hard so far, winning important races at Suzuka and Imola. But Red Bull can no longer afford mistakes if it wants to keep the challenge alive.
What can Red Bull do?
The Milton Keynes team must react before the summer break. “We need to stay close. If we want to beat them, we have to start taking points off them,” Horner explained. The goal is to close the gap in the standings and take advantage of any McLaren errors in the second half of the season.
Max Verstappen doesn’t seem optimistic. The four-time champion hinted that the 2025 title is already compromised. But Horner disagrees: “The season is long, 15 races remain. If we improve over the summer, we can still fight.” It is a direct appeal to the team to respond now.
With 65 wins to his name, Max is not giving up. But the team must support him. “We need a faster RB21,” Horner insists. The future of the championship will depend on how quickly Red Bull can react. “We need to build momentum before the summer break,” concludes the Red Bull boss.
