Following the end of his time with Racing Bulls after the Singapore Grand Prix, where the Faenza-based team officially gave Liam Lawson his seat back, Daniel Ricciardo’s Formula 1 career has effectively come to an end. At this point, the future of the Australian driver remains uncertain, with the 35-year-old yet to make a decision on what his next career challenge might be in another racing category, away from F1 and the already mentioned Racing Bulls or, even more so, Red Bull.
Away from Red Bull… or not?
Seeing Daniel Ricciardo back behind the wheel of a Red Bull will be impossible, especially given the contracts that tie Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez to the Milton Keynes team for at least the next two seasons. However, this does not rule out a possible return of the Australian to the Anglo-Austrian team, albeit in other roles.
The first to not dismiss this possibility was Team Principal Christian Horner, who after the United States Grand Prix in Austin expressed his willingness to welcome back his former driver, a seven-time race winner with Red Bull: “He grew up with Red Bull and is currently taking some time off, but he would be welcome, at any time, to be part of any role he chooses to be involved in,” he explained. “He has a significant profile, so if he decides to get involved in some activity in the United States or in another way, we would be very open to it.”
Possible roles
What Daniel Ricciardo’s next role at Red Bull might be remains to be seen: from a potential ambassador for the reigning world champion team to a driver for promotional events like show runs, where David Coulthard is still a key figure.
