In Miami, McLaren showcased an impressive dominance, securing a double win in both the Sprint and the Grand Prix, inflicting a 37-second gap to the best of the rest – George Russell. According to British sources, several teams (including Red Bull, which is trailing in the standings with Max Verstappen) have contacted the FIA to investigate the rear brakes.
The paddock is certain that McLaren’s secret lies in tire temperature management, but no one has pinpointed the source of this advantage. Recently, a rumor surfaced suggesting that the papaya team found an “intelligent” solution to circulate air through the brake ventilation drums, keeping the brakes hot and the tires cool. However, according to The-Race, the FIA confirmed that McLaren’s solution is entirely legal following a detailed inspection conducted after the Miami race.
Christian Horner’s words
It will be up to other teams to catch up with similarly efficient solutions. The advantage of the Woking team is especially significant in terms of race pace (eight-tenths per lap in Miami), which leads Red Bull team principal Christian Horner to say that the papaya team has an advantage similar to what Milton Keynes had two years ago: “I believe it is important to understand that McLaren has the strongest car,” said the Briton in Miami.
“It has that kind of advantage that we saw a couple of years ago, and they are obviously doing a great job with temperature management. When you look at this performance gap, it seems like there’s a lot to find, but we’ve seen how quickly things can change from one circuit to another.”
