The new Formula 1 season is just around the corner. In a few weeks, at the highly anticipated London event on the evening of February 18, we will see the liveries of all 10 teams for the first time. A few weeks later, from February 26 to 28, drivers will hit the track for three days of official testing at the Bahrain circuit. Among the many new storylines this season, one of the most intriguing is the Sainz-Williams pairing, as the former Ferrari driver embarks on this new chapter.
During his four years at Ferrari, Carlos Sainz showcased his full talent. After spending time with smaller teams such as Toro Rosso, Renault, and McLaren (which at the time was far from competitive), his arrival in Maranello gave him the opportunity to make a name for himself on the big stage.
He secured four victories, with a notable achievement—being the only driver to defeat Red Bull during their dominant 2023 season. Despite his two wins last year in Australia and Mexico, Ferrari decided to part ways with the Spanish driver, forcing him to look elsewhere.
He was welcomed with open arms by another historic team in F1, Williams. The 2025 season will likely mark the first time Carlos Sainz finds himself driving a backmarker car. The Grove-based team finished ninth in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship, and if the engineers fail to produce a more competitive car, Carlos Sainz’s chances of scoring points will be slim.
To arrive in Melbourne as prepared as possible and to fully motivate the British squad, Carlos Sainz has sought to guide the engineers toward the best working approach, using his former team—Ferrari—as a reference.
“I can’t wait to start working,” said Sainz. “I can tell you that a top-level F1 team like Ferrari is obsessed with every single detail, aiming for the last tenth, the last hundredth of a second. That’s the kind of team that can fight against McLaren, Mercedes, and Red Bull. Right now, the competition at the front is at an incredibly high level.”
“Those 1,200 people working at Ferrari—I don’t know exactly how many there are at Williams—you can see they have a passion for winning. They are obsessed with every tiny detail, every single piece of the car. That’s the mindset I want to bring to motivate all of you. If you add up all those milliseconds, trust me, it will be worth it. I have no doubt that all of you are just as capable as those fighting at the front.”
“So together, we need to become obsessed with that hundredth of a second, because I’m sure it will make the difference.”
