Williams, a difficult start for Carlos Sainz
Given the usual difficulties that come with changing teams, it was expected that Carlos Sainz’s experience could push Williams toward a mid-field position. Instead, Alex Albon has been fulfilling this role: the Anglo-Thai driver beat the former Ferrari driver in qualifying at Melbourne, Shanghai, and Suzuka, and in the drivers’ standings, he leads 18-1.
Carlos Sainz, therefore, is looking for a logical comeback in Bahrain. Sakhir is a track he knows very well, and he was able to test the FW47 there during pre-season testing. If results do not come even on Sunday, it will be an early warning signal for Smooth Operator, who still has great confidence ahead of the GP.
Carlos Sainz’s comments
“It’s nice to see that we are making good progress as a team, and the car was at a very good level on such a challenging track like Suzuka,” said the Spaniard. “From my side, despite the final result, there were many positive aspects to take from last week, and I’m looking forward to getting back into the car here in Bahrain. Returning to the same track we used for pre-season testing will be very interesting, although the conditions will be very different because it will be much hotter. I can’t wait to get started and put together a strong weekend.”
Alex Albon’s words
“It’s been a really great start to the year, with reaching Q3 and scoring points in every race so far,” added Alex Albon. “We want to keep that momentum going in Bahrain, where the conditions will be completely different from all the races we’ve had so far this year. The team has worked hard, and we hope to be just as strong in the race. We’ve made a lot of progress, and it’s nice to see us ahead of the teams in the midfield pack. The first night race of the season always brings a unique atmosphere, and I can’t wait to see what we can do.” – he concluded ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend.
