Cadillac’s Suzuka progress: Graeme Lowdon demands optimization despite jump in speed. Cadillac’s qualifying at Suzuka shows progress in speed and reliability.

Graeme Lowdon, Cadillac F1 team principal, 2026

The Suzuka qualifying session delivered a Saturday full of promise for Cadillac. The team showed not only speed, but also reliability, structure, and a crew beginning to consistently integrate upgrades. Valtteri Bottas delivered a clean and solid session, Checo Pérez displayed interesting pace that still needs refinement, while Team Principal Graeme Lowdon saw a squad finally building a stable technical foundation.

Lowdon sees real progress

The Team Principal assessed the weekend with clarity and satisfaction: “We’ve made a step forward in terms of speed and reliability, and we can be satisfied with qualifying,” Lowdon explained.

The upgrades brought to Japan worked, particularly for Bottas: “With Valtteri, we had a very solid day, fully integrating the upgrades.”

For Pérez, there is still room to grow: “Checo showed excellent pace, and we know we can achieve even more if we optimize every element.”

Now the challenge is turning potential into points: “We want to convert this speed into race performance and get both cars to the finish.”

Bottas delivers a clean qualifying that confirms direction

The Finnish driver described a smooth session, free of major issues but with encouraging signs: “We made the most of the session. The midfield group is still a bit ahead, but we have two cars behind us.”

Progress is tangible and comes from the efficiency of the package: “Everything is becoming more efficient as we move forward. The car feels better now that we’ve gained downforce. It’s still not enough, we need to keep improving.”

The race remains an open question: “Tomorrow anything can happen. It will be interesting.”

Pérez senses the potential, but balance isn’t optimal yet

Checo Pérez sees the glass half full, but doesn’t hide what’s missing: “The result is positive, but there is still potential to exploit. We had issues managing energy. If we can optimize it, there’s a lot of time to gain. We want another strong finish, and I hope tomorrow we can be in contention.”

Cadillac leaves Suzuka qualifying with a new feeling: a team that is actively building. Bottas provides stability, Pérez spots important margins for improvement, and Lowdon sees a project beginning to breathe. The race will be the true test: turning potential into points without losing the momentum of a growth process that finally seems to have real pace.
