F1 will welcome another team in 2026, and Fernando Alonso is concerned about Cadillac entering the sport. The team’s staff includes familiar faces in the paddock, which makes the Spaniard fear their car will be highly competitive.
Aston Martin’s star driver, Fernando Alonso, has expressed significant concern about Cadillac’s entry into F1 starting in 2026. The American team is expected to arrive fully prepared to make a strong debut.
Fernando Alonso’s comments
“As for the team personnel, they have some people from the Renault days,” said the Aston Martin driver to the media. “They will undoubtedly make a huge contribution during this initial phase of the project, thanks to their extensive experience in Formula 1 and motorsport. I wish them the best. Creating a new team is never an easy task, but I believe they will be well-prepared and have the right people in the right places. So, welcome.”
He added: “I’m looking forward to seeing how they integrate into the paddock and contribute to the competition. A new team always brings fresh air and an opportunity for our sport to evolve further.”
With Cadillac’s plans to join F1 now materializing, it will mark the first time in a decade that the grid will feature more than 10 teams. The former Ferrari and McLaren driver voiced his support for the decision, which had been rejected in the past when led by Andretti: “An eleventh team, 22 drivers—it’s not the first time we’ve had 22 on the grid,” reflected the two-time world champion. “It’s a complex decision for the sport as a whole, but if they’ve come to this conclusion, it’s because they believe it’s the best choice for everyone. I will always support any decision the management deems optimal,” concluded Fernando Alonso on Cadillac’s entry.
