Jenson Button is preparing to get back behind the wheel of one of the most iconic cars in modern Formula 1 history: the Brawn BGP-001, the machine that in 2009 turned a team saved for just one pound into a sporting miracle.
At Goodwood, the former world champion will relive a unique chapter of his career, bringing back to life a piece of history that exists in only three chassis and continues to hold a unique technical and emotional fascination for anyone who experienced that extraordinary season.
The return to Brawn: a champion and his defining car
Button will once again drive the BGP-001 during the Goodwood Members’ Meeting, where he is scheduled to complete several demonstration laps. This is not the first time the British driver has returned to the car with which he won the world championship, having previously driven it at Silverstone and on other special occasions, always surrounded by the same sense of uniqueness that defines the project.
The car he will drive is chassis BGP001/02, the very same chassis he used throughout the 2009 season. It is owned by Ross Brawn, the man who purchased the remains of the Honda F1 project for just one pound and built one of the most remarkable stories in Formula 1 history around it.
This same chassis has previously been displayed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and was also driven by Button during a demonstration run at Silverstone.
Three chassis, three stories: the legacy of Brawn GP
The story of the Brawn BGP-001 is written through just three chassis, each with its own journey that contributes to the legend of that unforgettable season.
The first, BGP001/01, was used by Rubens Barrichello for much of the championship, including the Hungarian Grand Prix, and delivered him victory at Valencia. Interestingly, this chassis was originally owned by Button himself, before he sold it to a private collector during the 2025 Miami Grand Prix weekend.
The second chassis, BGP001/02, is the most iconic of them all: the car in which Button competed throughout the 2009 season and ultimately secured the world championship title. It is now owned by Ross Brawn and is the same car the British driver will take to Goodwood, having already driven it on several special occasions like the Festival of Speed and his Silverstone demonstration run.
Finally, BGP001/03 is the chassis that Barrichello took to victory at Monza and used until the end of the season. Once its racing life ended, it was placed in the Silverstone Museum, where it remains one of the most recognisable symbols of that extraordinary achievement.
Button’s return to the Brawn is not just a nostalgic moment. It is a reminder of one of the most improbable and captivating stories in modern Formula 1.
Every time the BGP-001 returns to the track, it brings back the echo of a once-in-a-lifetime achievement built on technical ingenuity, bold leadership, and pure driving talent. And once again, Goodwood becomes the perfect stage to relive that magic.
