The former F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone, recently returned to the Paddock for the Brazilian Grand Prix at the Interlagos circuit. Even though he handed over ownership to Liberty Media in 2017, the 94-year-old Briton is still seen as an authoritative figure in the field. It couldn’t be otherwise, considering he managed to stay at the helm of FOM for 40 long years. Moreover, with the first-ever race of the premier motorsport category held in 1950, Bernie Ecclestone is certainly part of a select few who still have a complete understanding of the Formula 1 world.
The 2024 season is nearing its end. It’s time to take stock, and opinions on the quality of this year’s duels are always welcome. We’ve seen an intense rivalry between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris for the drivers’ title, while in the constructors’ championship, there is an even fiercer battle between Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull. Recently, Max Verstappen has also been under the spotlight for behavior judged as overly aggressive on track and for using inappropriate language in front of the cameras.
Ecclestone: “There will never be another Max, but Prost…”
So, when *The Daily Mail* newspaper asked Bernie Ecclestone for his opinion on the three-time Formula 1 world champion, Mr. E said: “Max is a special person, a special guy. Wet or dry, it makes no difference; he’s fast in all conditions. His strength is in his mentality; he always wants to win. I don’t know if we’ll ever see another Max.”
Words that might suggest the Dutchman has become the former F1 boss’s favorite, but on that topic, the Briton has a totally different view: “For me, the absolute best was Alain Prost. He never had any assistance, neither in the garage nor via radio. He was always alone on track, and you have to acknowledge all these things,” he concluded, according to *GPBlog.com*.
