Lindblad: “Crazy to be third on the first lap, I didn’t expect points on debut”
Arvid Lindblad immediately made a mark in his Formula 1 debut. The Racing Bulls rookie pushed up to third place for a few hundred meters after overtaking Lewis Hamilton and fought tooth and nail against every competitor he faced, including Max Verstappen, who wasn’t happy with what he saw as a brake-test from Lindblad entering the pit lane.
A strong debut for the Racing Bulls driver
Lindblad eventually finished eighth in the Grand Prix, while Max Verstappen in his own debut had shown equal determination but was forced to retire due to a technical issue. Two intense debuts with similar grit, the only difference being the final result due to reliability.
It was an amazing race, crazy to be third on the first lap fighting with Lewis Hamilton and then Max Verstappen,
Lindblad said to Sky Sport after the race. There are things I still need to work on, but it was a great GP, and finishing in the points goes beyond any expectation. Was I the best on track? I shouldn’t be the one to answer that, but I think I did a good job together with the team.
Arvid Lindblad’s composed yet aggressive debut in Melbourne has immediately validated Racing Bulls’ decision to promote him into the 2026 seat, proving that the next generation of drivers is more than ready for the technical demands of the new regulations. While his “brake-test” incident with Verstappen will likely be a talking point in the drivers’ briefing in China, Lindblad’s ability to run at the front in his first hour of F1 racing signals the arrival of a major new player on the grid.
