Among the major developments on the horizon for the 2026 Formula 1 season is the highly anticipated full entry of Audi into the sport. As part of this major step, the German manufacturer has decided to rebrand the team ahead of its official debut, with the change coming in conjunction with the announcement of a new title sponsor. The renowned German automotive brand will partner with the Sauber team, and the project is being overseen with the long-term goal of competing for the Formula 1 World Championship title within five years — an objective reaffirmed on multiple occasions by Mattia Binotto, Audi’s newly appointed team principal and former Scuderia Ferrari boss.
Recent results are offering encouraging signs that the team’s transformation is heading in the right direction. The podium finish secured by Nico Hülkenberg at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, coupled with the team’s increasing consistency in scoring points through both of its drivers, points to a clear upward trajectory. These performances highlight a more structured and efficient approach to development — a direct result of the organisational and technical changes implemented under Mattia Binotto’s leadership since his arrival.
Mattia Binotto has been open in interviews about the poor condition in which he found the team, which operated under the Alfa Romeo name until recently. He described the internal situation as quite critical and felt compelled to initiate a series of fundamental changes aimed at putting the team back on a competitive path. These included personnel adjustments, a redefined technical direction, and a cultural reset to instill a winning mentality.
Audi to Race Under a New Name in 2026
Meanwhile, the name change has now been officially confirmed. Starting from the 2026 season, the team will feature the brand “Revolut” in its official designation, marking the beginning of a new era. The rebranding comes as part of a multi-year strategic partnership between Audi and the fast-growing financial technology company Revolut. The collaboration was formally announced by the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer and represents a key step in Audi’s Formula 1 strategy.
Gernot Döllner, the Chief Executive Officer of Audi AG, explained the motivations behind this new chapter in a press release: “Audi will enter Formula 1 with a clear set of ambitions. Our goal is to establish a technologically advanced and financially sustainable platform that represents the future of our brand. We are fully committed to the strength of our project, which we are approaching with both realism and a constant desire to improve. Revolut will be a fundamental partner, sharing our values and vision. Formula 1 is a global stage that offers us the unique opportunity to connect with new audiences worldwide.”
This rebranding marks a significant milestone in Audi’s journey toward becoming a full-fledged Formula 1 constructor. The partnership with Revolut not only brings financial support but also signals a broader marketing and branding strategy to position Audi as a major player in the sport for years to come.
