Audi bolsters 2026 lineup: Former F2 winner Ralph Boschung joins as development driver. Audi confirms Ralph Boschung as its new development driver for 2026..

Audi F1

Audi has confirmed Ralph Boschung as its new development driver starting from 2026. The Swiss driver brings a wealth of experience, particularly from Formula 2, and will work closely with the team to enhance the performance of the R26. The German team made the announcement official today.

Ralph achieved one win and five podiums in Formula 2, competing with the Trident and Campos teams. His racing experience will certainly benefit Audi as it continues to establish itself in Formula 1. Boschung joins Freddie Slater in the German team’s young driver program. Slater will compete in the upcoming F3 season, aiming to showcase his talent.

The official Audi announcement

Audi confirmed another driver by signing Ralph Boschung as its development driver for 2026. The announcement was shared via the team’s social media channels, introducing the Swiss driver as available to support the squad. This completes the official lineup alongside Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto.

“New development driver: building the future with us. We are proud to welcome Swiss driver Ralph Boschung as our development driver. Congratulations on taking this next step with us,” the team stated on its official Instagram account.

The choice comes as somewhat of a surprise, as Boschung had stepped away from active racing. Audi has now opened its Driver Development Programme, with Ralph joining the other drivers already involved. Simulator work will be crucial with the new generation of Formula 1 cars, and the role of reserve drivers is becoming increasingly important.

The addition of Ralph Boschung to Audi’s 2026 project highlights the team’s commitment to building a robust technical foundation. By pairing a seasoned veteran of the junior categories with their existing race lineup of Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto, Audi is ensuring they have a diverse range of feedback to refine the R26. As the simulator becomes the primary battlefield for the new regulations, Boschung’s “surprising” return to the top tier could prove to be the secret weapon Audi needs for a successful debut.
