Harsh numbers
The 2024 Formula 1 season was far from stellar for Aston Martin. Despite retaining fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship from the previous year, the team suffered a staggering 186-point drop compared to twelve months ago. The decline, already evident midway through 2023, was not halted with the AMR24, which only worsened as the championship progressed, managing just four points finishes in the last eight races.
Fernando Alonso – Lance Stroll comparison
While Fernando Alonso fought, as always, with the determination of a lion—even at 43 years old—scoring 70 points, Lance Stroll struggled significantly, accumulating only 24 points. The Spanish champion outperformed his teammate across all key metrics: 17-7 in races, 19-5 in qualifying, and 14-6 in points finishes.
Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack, however, defended the 26-year-old Canadian with a statement that gained widespread attention in the Spanish media, with *Marca* even leading its F1 section with the story: “I think that, in general, there isn’t much difference between our two drivers.” Mike Krack justified this by explaining: “We look at things objectively, and if there is a difference, we try to identify and analyze it. But I believe the car is so difficult to handle that it’s impossible to predict its behavior. I won’t answer questions about the drivers because the car we gave them simply wasn’t good enough.”
