According to The Race, Max Verstappen’s race engineer is reportedly holding discussions with the British team.
An unexpected rumour
During the second half of the 2025 Formula 1 season, there were repeated references to a delicate personal situation that had a significant impact on the life of Gianpiero Lambiase, Max Verstappen’s long-time race engineer. So much so that, immediately after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, there was talk of a possible new role for the 45-year-old British engineer of Italian origin, still within the Red Bull team.
However, in recent hours, a report from respected British journalist Jon Noble of The Race has shaken the Formula 1 world: Gianpiero Lambiase is in talks with Aston Martin.
The details
In recent weeks, the possibility of a move to Aston Martin has reportedly opened up for Gianpiero Lambiase, where a familiar figure, Adrian Newey, now holds a senior technical and sporting role.
The British team is said to have discussed with the engineer a senior management position described as “potentially at team principal or chief executive officer level, within a renewed management structure”.
Last November, Aston Martin announced that Adrian Newey would take on the role of team principal starting from early 2026. Should Gianpiero Lambiase leave Red Bull, the leading candidate to replace him as Max Verstappen’s race engineer would be Simon Rennie, who has already stepped in for him in Austria and Belgium.
If this departure is confirmed, it would mark the end of one of the most successful partnerships in the history of the sport. The Verstappen-Lambiase duo has secured four World Championships and 71 Grand Prix victories together, defining an era of Red Bull dominance.
