Aston Martin: Vandoorne confirmed as test and reserve driver for 2026
The Silverstone-based team has confirmed that the 33-year-old Belgian will remain with Aston Martin, with Jak Crawford continuing in the role of third driver.
Waiting for Aston Martin
Formula 1 has fired up its engines for the first winter tests at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, an event at which Aston Martin has not yet appeared. The British team, like several others on the grid, has decided to delay its on-track debut in Spain. However, while waiting to take to the circuit on Thursday or Friday, an official announcement has arrived from the Silverstone outfit.
Still together
Aston Martin has confirmed that Stoffel Vandoorne will remain with the team for the 2026 Formula 1 season, continuing in his role as test and reserve driver. The Belgian joined the team in 2023 after a spell with Mercedes and previously with McLaren, where he competed for two seasons as a full-time race driver in 2017 and 2018.
Vandoorne will continue his work alongside Jak Crawford, maintaining the same structure already in place. Last year, Aston Martin had announced the British driver as the team’s third driver, and he was confirmed in the same statement for the upcoming season.
With a stable lineup of reserve and test drivers, Aston Martin appears well-prepared for any contingencies that may arise during this revolutionary season. All eyes now turn to the end of the week, when the team is finally expected to break its silence and reveal its 2026 challenger on the asphalt of Montmeló.
